Music Album: A Million Lights by Cheryl

Cheryl means so much to the UK, probably just like Beyonce means so much to the US. Unlike the latter, Cole rose to fame by appearing on a talent show and won a spot to be part of Girls Aloud - she has since relinquished her role within the group to focus on her solo career that has seen the delivery of three albums in under 5 years. I have to mention that the last two years have been a tormenting one for the UK sweetheart, after her battle with malaria, her sudden departure from X-Factor UK and also its US counterpart, most recently the backlash she received for not-so-stellar vocals at the Queens Diamond Jubilee. However, the undisputed Princess of UK pop has returned with her new album to shift the focus back to her music

The A Million Lights era was kicked off by her addictive single, the Calvin Harris-produced Call My Name, an infectious single and a sexy video led the single straight to the top of the UK charts, just like all the first singles from her previous albums have always done, she did however miss out on her 3rd consecutive number one album on the UK charts. A Million Lights follows in true Cheryl fashion, a collection of songs about love, heartbreak and having fun. Her direction has always been addictive pop sounds with the occasional ballad with pop influences. Screw You (Featuring Wretch 32), Ghetto Baby (Written by Lana Del Rey), Craziest Things (Featuring Will I Am) and Under The Sun are some of the better songs on the album.

Undoubtedly, she delivers another one for her catalogue and another album that die-hard Cheryl fans would love. In my opinion, I think this album lost the lustre that Messy Little Raindrops had - her second album which I think is the strongest out of all three. She will continue to be a dominant force within the UK pop industry but only time will tell if she would ever have the international appeal that artists with her looks and access usually enjoy.
