Music Album: Til The Morning by Keith Sweat

It is always an honour when an artist who has become a pioneer in the music business and whose body of work has earned them legendary status can come back with more music even though things have changed over the years. Keith Sweat is one of those artists who continues to release new music despite the fact that he might not rule the r&b charts like he did in the 90s, he is one of the very few 90s legends who manages to offer us the iconic “baby making music” that made him an icon in his own right.

Til The Morning is the brand new album that he offers us, a collection of simply r&b ballads aimed at catering to listeners out there in healthy relationships. Keith’s formula of music has always been sexual, loving and filled with the euphoria of romance and this album continues with that formula. He stays true to his kind of music on songs like Candy Store, Make Me Say Ooh, Open Invitation and Til The Morning, duets with Coko of SWV on My Valentine and caters to his contemporary listeners with the urban sound and naughty lyrics on To The Middle which features T-Pain.

Like I mentioned earlier, Mr Sweat is a legend. Even though his iconic songs were recorded and released at a time when I was just a toddler, I still listen to his music till this day because he is one of those artists who has a certain timelessness to his songs. Although I strongly believe that his career could have done a whole lot better (I strongly believe that he could have had the careers that R. Kelly and Babyface have today), but his inability to re-invent himself and his need to play it safe by sticking to the same formula over years have made him somewhat of a memory. However, his body of work is iconic and timeless so if he keeps on giving us music like this that we love, who am I to judge?
