After many push-backs and delays, many thought that Young Jeezy’s career was in jeopardy, but finally his new album Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition sees the light of the day. Although I would not consider myself to be a huge Young Jeezy fan, I must say that with every album he releases, I find myself falling in love with a few tracks which in the end, makes me purchase the album and this one is no different, he delivers a collection of heavy hitting songs that will no doubt impact the hip hop community.
Just like majority of his material, this album follows the usual trend that Jeezy sets for himself, the production and instrumentals are bass heavy and filled with a lot of drums, which I think has always been his way of making sure that his music is embraced by the entire hip hop community while still being able to stay true to his southern roots. There are quite a number if tracks that will get love from hip hop enthusiasts and club-goers, the raunchy All We Do, the naughty Supafreak (Featuring 2 Chainz) and the banger that is Lose My Mind (Featuring Plies), all fall in that category. However, Jeezy does not sound entirely gangster throughout the album as he shows his softer side on songs like Leave You Alone (Featuring Ne-Yo) and I Do (Featuring Andre 3000 and Jay-Z).
One thing that I can say that I will always appreciate about Young Jeezy is that he stays true to himself. He is one of the very few rappers I know (apart from Lil’Wayne and Nelly) who has found crossover success but still manages to stay true to his roots through his music. With every album, he has continued to surprise me and I am happy he has been able to maintain his success but I still think that he needs to re-invent himself and see if it works out because bringing the same formula but with different dosage on every album will soon wear thin.
