Music Album: ORA by Rita Ora

ORA is the debut album from blond bombshell, Rita Ora. A few years ago, the singer was signed to Roc Nation but was kept behind the scenes which I believe was for artistic grooming reasons. With a roster that boasts of Rihanna and J.Cole, it was only logical that Jay-Z and his label took their time to see what musical direction the singer could take. In her hometown of London, she scored big time after being featured on DJ Fresh's energetic anthem, Hot Right Now - which also became a huge hit in Europe. It was an open door opportunity that could not be missed - hence why we now have her simple, mixed genre debut.

Rita offers us a bit of everything on this album, we get the hip hop influenced r&b songs as seen in R.I.P (Featuring Tinie Tempah) and Love & War (Featuring J. Cole). She offers us interesting pop anthems as evidenced in How We Do (Party & Bulls**t), Young, Single and Sexy and Crazy. Though the album is a bit all over the place with the musical styling - glimpses of her musical prowess shine through on songs like the emotional ballad Hello, Hi, Goodbye, the inspirational Shine Ya Light and the radio-friendly Radioactive.

Although it is exciting that her music has finally seen the light of day, she is in a bit of a tricky situation because she is signed to the same management label as Rihanna, so the comparisons will be the dark shadow that can eclipse her. Rita oozes freshness and there is so much potential for her to have a career equally has magnificent as Rihanna's, but in her case the compnay that she keeps (or manages her) can either make or break her.
