2010 Soul Train Awards

The 2010 Soul Train awards was aired on BET and Centric, and I must admit that it was one hell of a show. One night that brought together numerous soulful performers and artists. The King of R&B, R.Kelly opened up the show with a brief medlley of some of his classic hits (Bump & Grind, When a Woman's Fed Up and Happy People) before breaking into the soulful and vocally strong new When A Woman Loves. Kelly proved to supporters and critics that he was not recently named billboard's number one r&b/hip hop artist for nothing. The performance saw him break down into a traditional soul train dance sequence and the piano-interlude at the end of the performance showed us why he is truly one of the greatest to ever do it.

Oscar-nominated actor and actress, Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson were hosts this year, and I think that the organizers of this years show, she get their money back. I think they both tried too hard to put on a good show but ended up giving us an unremarkable one, I will suggest that the organizers stick to the trend of using comedians as hosts, at least then we will know we have something to look forward to.

Other outstanding performances of the night belong to the artists who performed the Anita Baker tribute and those who performed the Ron Isley tribute. Ne-Yo and Cee-Lo also gave note-worthy performances. Jazmine Sullivan and Bruno Mars gave lacklustre performances, though they did sound good, it seemed like they were struggling to sing, which made their performances pretty unforgettable.

Apart from the annoying hosts, I think this years show boasted of some of the most memorable performances to hit the soul train awards (I just can't get the R. Kelly performance out of my head), as for the recipients of awards I really have nothing to say, congratulations to B.o.B for winning song of the year, Alicia Keys for winning best female and Usher for winning Best Album.
