Music Album: Transition by Chipmunk

Chipmunk is one of the most recognized hip hop/grime artists that the UK possesses. At a very young age he bursted unto the UK music scene, creating a buzz for himself and eventually establishing himself as a well known artist in the UK and Europe. With millions sold across Europe and a number of crossover hits under his belt, he delivers what I call a surprising yet solid rap/hip hop album, Transition.

Unlike notable rap albums by UK artists released recently, none of them have a solid rap/hip-hop background like Chipmunk has been able to achieve with this album. The production quality is of exceptional calibre and he was also able to score a couple of high profile collaborations; Champion (Featuring Chris Brown), In The Air (Featuring Keri Hilson), Take Off(featuring Trey Songz) and White Lies (featuring Kalenna of Diddy Dirty Money). Throughout the album, he maintains the intensity of his rhymes, flowing melodically with all the different instrumentals of every track. However, where he wins are on the Wretch 32 featured, Armageddon and the emotional Then and Now, on the latter he descibes his early years before he became famous in lines like "From the age of 10 I used to do a paper round/Just so I could see the paper round/So I could splash in the porna shop/And buy sweets till my teeth would rot"

I must admit that I have never been a fan of Chipmunk but I can honestly say that he has won me over with this album. Putting all comparisons aside, I have never felt strongly towards a rap album like this since Ja Rule's Pain is Love or Fabolous' From Nothin' to Somethin'. What a great effort!
