If you do not know Emeli Sande, I suggest that you get familiar. Ms Sande won over a diverse audience with her crossover urban single, Heaven and her duet with Professor Green, Read All About It, prior to this she had a hit song with Chipmunk and has worked with a diverse range of artists that include Tinie Tempah, Leona Lewis and Susan Boyle. Simon Cowell has voiced that she is probably one of his favourite songwriters out at the moment. In addition to her success on the UK charts and other European charts, she was awarded the Brit Awards Critics Choice which says a lot about her talent and artistry.
Our Version of Events is her debut album and has been described as a project with "richly melodic, classically powerful, retro-futurist soul-pop songs.". From the upbeat tempo of Daddy (Featuring Naughty Boy) and Next To Me to the retro and vocally powerful Heaven, this album delivers on all levels with respects to vocals, songwriting and over production and musical direction. Where Ms Sande reigns however are on her ballads - My Kind of Love, the stripped down version of Read All About It, Suitcase and Mountains all make this album a worthy musical ride.
Emeli is a rising star and I think the future is really bright for this scottish bred woman with a soul flavoured voice that has potential to rival Adele or even Jill Scott. I cannot wait to see how high her careers rises given that she has caught the attention of Alicia Keys - who will make sure that Ms Sande has the most rewarding career across the pond, a few performances on American TV will do the trick because the states seem to be drinking a lot of the UK artists cool aid these days given recent success of Jessie J, The Wanted, One Direction and of course the undefeating Adele.
