Music Album: Libra Scale by Ne-Yo

One of the best songwriters out there right now has finally decided to give us a new album. His last album, Year of the Gentleman was a huge success thanks to the two singles Closer and Miss Independent. With the same confidence and persona, one would have thought that Libra Scale would be up a level but I think Ne-Yo's attempt to make the album a movie is what will make people lose interest in this record.

The first single, Beautiful Monster sounds like another attempt at Closer or he simply tried to recreate it but with the number of euro-pop songs that we hear on the radio, it did not match up to its competitors in the market. Champagne Life, the album's second single, we see Ne-Yo return to the feel good r&b that we know and love him for, and so also does the third single, the sexy slow-tempo One In a Million (which happens to now be my favourite track of Ne-Yo's). While What Have I Done and Know Your Name have this Michael Jackson flavour to it.

Libra Scale really does not have much to offer with just 10 tracks, and I don't think it is an amazing album either but if you want some good music, you got it. With other note-worthy tracks like Crazy Love, Telekinesis and Making a Movie, you might just be in for a pretty enjoyable experience. There is no denying that Ne-Yo has smooth vocals and amazing songwriting skills, so my advice is that he ditches the superhero act and bring back the gentleman.
