Music Album: MusiqintheMagiq by Musiq Soulchild

Musiq Soulchild is undoubtedly one of the most consistent soul/r&b artists in the music industry, his constant ability to give sweet love songs, heartwarming melodies and emotion-lifting lyrics have made him a legend in his own right. He is the perfect definition of “you do not have to sell millions to be considered a great musician”. MusiqintheMagiq is his latest album and once again, he delivers another excellent one.

The album opens with the eclectic, yet soulful Anything, a collaboration produced by and featuring Swizz Beats, the song bridges the gap between soul music of yesteryear and that of today, but still giving it a contemporary feel, very reminiscent of something that one would think only R. Kelly could achieve. The album the delves into the sweet production and lyrics of Single, where he sings “If I met you when I was single/We probably could have been something more/Cause you're beautiful/But you should know/That I found my girl/And I know I love her so/I gotta go”. The album grows stronger and deeper as each tracks plays by, but where he reigns supreme vocally and lyrically is on Befriends, on the second hook, he sings “I don’t want to hear no maybes in the future/see that you go with me last when I put you first/you got me listening to songs but they don’t work/they only remind me how much love hurts”.

This is a collection of songs about love, desire, lust and even heartbreak. Musiq delivers each song like he is telling a story which makes you want to listen to the album from beginning to end, so that one can find out how the bittersweet love story ends. This is undoubtedly one of the best r&b albums that has come out this year.
