Music Album: 1977 by The-Dream

After swearing to quit the performing side of music due to the poor reception of his last album, Love King, and the issues he had with his label. The Dream not only promises to release another album, but in anticipation of that new album, he gives us a taste of his recording sessions in form of a free album/mixtape that he calls 1977.

On this album, The Dream returns to the musical direction that he had with his first two albums. Two things I admire The Dream for is that, first, he knows how to melodically deliver his voice over any beat and secondly, he is an amazing songwriter, these two qualities which I consider to be his strengths as an artist. On 1977, he perfectly exemplifies these qualities, which in turn have me waiting for the new album he plans to offer late 2011/ early 2012.

On an artistic note, I like how he put the gimmicks aside and was able to put his experiences in his personal life into his creativity. Given his recent split from Christina Milian, one can only assume that songs like Long Gone, Used To Be and 1977 (Miss You Still) were inspired by that. Wedding Crashers and Ghetto are other notable mentions but the best tracks are Wake Me When Its Over and Form of Flattery. On the latter he sings to an ex lover "NO HEART NO GLORY, NO PAIN NO FEAR, IT’S ONE THING TO BE HOT, BUT THAT DON’T MAKE IT A CAREER". 1977 is definitely a keeper.
