Music Album: Here I Am by Kelly Rowland

After a series of failed singles, Kelly went back to the studio to tweak her sound and worked with producer, Rico Love to deliver the biggest song of her solo career as a main artist, Motivation. Motivation is sensual and sexual song with a slow-tempo infectious beat that has made Kelly win back the American audience that one thought she had lost. Though many criticized her for experimenting with other electro forms of music, Kelly proves that she cannot be kept in a box. She can cater to her international fans with dance-influenced songs like Commander, but she can still remind people of her urban roots with a song like Motivation.

Still riding high on the success of Motivation, many began to assume maybe this was Kelly's time to shine. Her previous band member, Beyonce released a pretty solid album a few weeks ago even though it has received lukewarm reception compared to her previous efforts, so I am sure a lot of people are expecting Kelly to deliver an equally solid, if not, a better album. Here I Am successfully shows that Kelly is comfortable experimenting with different genres of music. From the r&b driven sound of Keep It Between Us to the horn and bass heavy influence on Down for Whatever, she offers a rollercoaster musical journey.

Kelly Rowland has finally proven that she can make name for herself without being stalked by shadow of her more successful counterpart. However, this album still does not solidify her new found success and independence. I commend Kelly for taking time to go back to the studio to cook up a more exciting sound, but if you are looking for the album that will finally declare that she is in a lane of her own, this is definitely not the one.
