Music Album: Light of The Sun by Jill Scott

In an atmosphere where r&b/soul and hip hop are gradually being overshadowed by the dominance of pop/dance music, artists like Adele, Musiq Soulchild and Marsha Ambrosius have managed to deliver critically acclaimed soul/r&b albums. Another artist who has brought her soulful vocals and poetic flow back to music is Jill Scott. After taking time to build her career in movies and tv, she finally returns with her long-awaited 4th album, Light of The Sun.

Light of the Sun, offers the kind of the music that we have loved receiving from Ms Scott over the years. She delivers amazing soulful/poetic vocals on songs like Womanifesto and Rolling Hills. Without trying to sound gimmicky, she perfectly blends soul music with rap/hip hop influences on songs like Shame (featuring Eve) and All Cried Out Redux (featuring Doug E. Fresh). A perfect collection of r&b/soul with traditional hip hop and funk influences, she delivers yet another solid album.

Jill Scott will always be one of those artists who have a standard and dedicated following because of how consistent and solid her music is. With success in movies and tv, she shows that she can make a return to music and still prove that she is a force.
