Music Album: Lioness: Hidden Treasures by Amy Winehouse

Last year we lost one of musics greatest contemporary voices. Amy Winehouse surprisingly and unexpectedly succumbed to death leaving millions of fans around the world with memories and thoughts of what could have been. During her career, she managed to release what could be considered classic albums (Frank and Back to Black), and despite the whirlwind of press she gained over the years, it was refreshing to know that she was still finding time to go to the studio to record. Her death brought hope that dedicated fans would get to hear some of the material. Lioness: Hidden Treasures is a reminder of how great and amazing Ms Winehouse was and in death, still is.

The album contains demo versions of two of her popular hits, Valerie and Tears Dry On Their Own but also contains a number if songs that she had recorded from 2002 – 2011. Our Day Will Come, Song For You and Between The Cheats capture the voice that millions of people around the world fell in love with and made her pop culture icon, but one of the songs that is sure to be more appreciated is Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?, mainly because it was one of the songs recorded in 2011, which means that despite her battle with drugs and alcohol, her classic voice remained unscathed.

It is pretty certain that one would feel emotional when listening to this record because it only shows that she had an impact on music in the short period that her career spanned, with just two albums – she is already considered a legend of our time, even Adele and Jessie J consider her as an artist that had a massive impact on their careers. I have no doubt that this album will touch the hearts and bless the ears of many because just like the album title says, this album is indeed a collection of hidden treasures.
