2011 BET Awards

The 2011 BET Awards was hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, and just like his wonderful performances in movies and on stage, he did a wonderful job hosting the show, probably the best that the show has had in a while. He warned throughout the night, that no one was safe from his jokes, and he did take jabs at everyone from Diddy to Trey Songz. However, the highlight of his performance was his all star skit with Nelly, Bobby Brown, Jermaine Dupri, Anthony Anderson and Nick Cannon titled The Real Husbands of Hollywood, a spin-off of the popular Real Housewives franchise.

Though she was miles away performing at the historic Glastonbury Festival, Beyonce delivered an amazing performance of two songs off her new album (Best Thing I Never Had and End of Time) via satellite. Her former bandmate, Kelly Rowland finally came out of her shell and delivered a groundbreaking performance of her new hit single, Motivation, along with Trey Songz who performed a medley of Love Faces and Unusual. Other amazing performances by Marsha Ambrosius and Cee-Lo Green who took part in the Patti Labelle tribute, Alicia Keys who is currently celebrating her 10 years in the music industry delivered smooth performance of her hits with Bruno Mars and Rick Ross, Mary J. Blige delivered a medley songs with the help of DJ Khaled and Anita Baker. Although he was a big winner, Chris Brown’s performance of She Ain’t You and Look at Me Now did not have the wow factor that his performances usually have. Other lacklustre performances were from Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, Drake and Lil’ Wayne.

Chris Brown was the biggest winner of the night taking home majority of the categories that he was nominated in. In attempt to gain rating or create a publicity stunt, there was a mix up with the winner of the Coca-Cola Viewers Choice Award, though it was announced that Chris Brown won the award, but the presenter of the award then went on to announce that the actual winner was Rihanna, but later press releases reveal that the award actually belonged to Chris.

BET managed to plan quite an event, despite the number of technical glitches they made through out the show. BET still have a long way to go before they can put on record rating shows like MTV. See full list of winners below;
