Lady Gaga: Pushing Envelopes, Breaking Records and Making History

In 2008, I remember listening to Just Dance by Lady Gaga and I thought what an amazing pop song by an unknown pop star, could this be another one-hit wonder? Over one and a half years later, this person I thought would be a one-hit wonder has become the biggest superstar in the world. Her debut album The Fame has continued to top world charts since 2008 when it was released, continuing to find its way into the top ten album charts consistently. Its amazing to think that record labels actually turned this outstanding personality and performer down, but thank goodness AKON was able to see beyond the business and saw the star quality in the woman born as Stefani Germanotta but we all love to call her Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga's album, THE FAME has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, producing the worldwide number one hits Just Dance, Poker Face, Love Game and my personal favorite Paparazzi. Lady Gaga has got tongues wagging because of her suggestive and provocative attires, her unimaginable and unbelievable performances and a personality that people would call crazy and weird, which happens to be the way that this petite performer wants to be viewed. In 2009, she released a follow-up EP to her outstanding debut album and called it, THE FAME MONSTER, which includes the most watched song/video in the world Bad Romance, one of the biggest collaborations Telephone (featuring Beyonce) and one of the most controversial songs and videos of the 21st Century Alejandro. Lady Gaga is the only female artist to have garnered more number one singles in the shortest timeframe ever. She is not even five years into her popularity/celebrity yet, but she already has two sold out world tours to her credit, she has become the most followed person on facebook even beating out the President of the USA, Barrack Obama. She is on her way to becoming the most followed person on twitter catching up closely with Britney Spears. The amazing thing about this woman is that, she sings, she dances, she writes and she plays the piano... this woman is what you call walking art because her life imitates art. She is not afraid to do the things she does and she is willing to them no matter who she hurts or offends along the way even the originator of weirdness Grace Jones has taken shots at her. She is also an activist, campaigning against racism and hatred towards the gay, lesbian and transgendered.

People love Lady Gaga for infectious pop sound and her outrageous clothing choices but another thing about this woman that stands out is her personality. Her recent interview with Larry King on CNN she was asked what she would have done if she was not a singer, she replied "Larry, I would rather be dead if I could not be a performer". In a recent interview with Vanity Fair magazine, she says " I am afraid to have sex because i think the person is going to steal away my creativity through my vagina", These are some of Lady Gaga's answers to some questions that she has been asked. Her personality and overall aura can come across as scary, weird and strange but believe me when I say, the over 15 million people that follow her on facebook including myself love her that way.

The annual MTV Video Music Awards 2010 nominations have just been announced and it is no surprise that Lady Gaga was nominated a record-breaking 13 times (16, if you count the three times that Beyonce was nominated for Videophone which featured Lady Gaga), the most times that an artist has been nominated for the VMAs. Of course, being who she is, Gaga took to Facebook and Twitter to thank her fans or should I say her monsters for supporting her all the way since she hit the scene. When the awards will take place in September, I have no doubt that Lady Gaga will be a big winner all she has to do is go on facebook and twitter, and tell her monsters to vote for her even though her music videos speak for themselves as visual art. She might have shared glory with Beyonce and Taylor Swift last year, I am sure the night will be all about Lady Gaga this year, so lets get ready to see more outrageous outfits and lets get ready to hear more interesting thank you speeches.

Gaga is still on her Monster Ball Tour which will run all the way into 2011, but she has revealed that she is already working on another album. Let me just say, when that album comes out, I will not be thinking twice before I get it. Long Live Lady Gaga! Long Live Mother Monster! (Gets Claws Out!) :)
