Music Album: Goodbye Lullaby by Avril Lavigne

After taking a musical hiatus to enjoy married life and eventually going through an amicable divorce, Avril Lavigne decided to jump back into the studio to record her fourth studio album, Goodbye Lullaby, a collection of the usual type of songs that we know her for, songs that I will refer to as quirky and naughty.

In all honesty, this album does not measure up to the brilliance of her previous albums but I will still admit that it is a pretty solid effort. The problem here lies in the fact that, Avril is no longer the teenager that gave us hits like Sk8er Boi or Complicated. For some reason, she still seems to think that she can get away with the teen-pop records, a direction that I think she had the last chance of using on her previous album, The Best Damn Thing. What The Hell, the first single was a good choice, but to see her running around the city being chased by her love interest in the video seemed odd to me, even Selena Gomez could come up with more innovative ideas for videos.

When she shed her tomboy image, she came back with a big record. Avril needs to bury the teen-pop aura and show the world that she has grown into a strong independent woman, she has the voice to sing huge ballads and she is young enough to be creative to be taken seriously as an artist. I give her praise for writing every single song on this album, that is a feat that is very rare for most artists out there to do.
