Adele: The Return of Soul Music

Months ago, Adele released fantastic sophomore album, 21. The album has become a worldwide smash, receiving praises from both music critics and music buyers. The album has continued to break numerous records and garner a wider audience for the North London singer and this week in the USA, 21 is the number one album and the first single, Rolling In The Deep has become Adele's first number one single stateside. Very few female artists have been able to achieve that feat of having the number one song and number one album on the Billboard charts at the same time.

In an atmosphere where music has shifted from genuine artistic creation to become a commercialised avenue for artists to score a hit song without having hopes of having a longlasting career, could Adele's groundbreaking sophomore album have shifted music back to sanity? If you turn on your radio today, I am sure that 5 out of every 10 songs you listen to have been influenced by the euro-centric production that has been made popular by artists like Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas and Usher. However, 21 does not follow this trend, on the album Adele sings with so much passion and soul, something we rarely associate with commercial music nowadays, but the album has become such a success that I think people are beginning to realise you don't have to have a sexy image and club-vibrating beats for your music to be considered both a critical and commercial success.

In any of the world charts right now, Adele has about 3 to 4 songs in the singles chart and the album has reached number one in over 10 countries. The success of 21 has even allowed people to go back to digital online stores and music outlets to buy her debut album, 19. Three years ago, not too many people could say that they knew Adele, even though she was constantly being compared to Amy Winehouse. Adele has proved to be a true music artist, she has been able to get people interested in her voice and music, and not what club she will be going to this weekend or what dress size she wears.

I sincerely hope that she maintains the persona that has all of a sudden sparked up interest in the world and I also hope she continues to create outstanding songs. I cannot wait for next year's Grammy Awards because I am certain that she is going to be a major contender. Adele is a pure definition of critically acclaimed music becoming a commercial success. Pick both her albums today and embark on a rewarding musical experience.
