Music Album: Matthew Morrison by Matthew Morrison

Following the success of the hugely popular TV show, Glee, I was waiting patiently for the cast to begin working on their individual music projects. Matthew Morrison is the first to offer us his debut self-titled album, an album that experiments with different genres, influenced by the 50s, 60s and 70s.

The album opens up with the mellow and country-sounding Summer Rain, where he sings about making love on a rooftop in the summer rain. The album then delves into the more upbeat and rock-influenced, Still Got Tonight, where he sings “The stars collide, we come back to life, we come back to life, the sparks will fly, one look in your eyes, my heart’s open wide”. Though he might be riding high on the success of Glee, and might relatively be considered a new artist, he was able to score some unexpected and high profile guests, on Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot (Featuring Sting), the broadway classic Somewhere Over The Rainbow (featuring Gwyneth Paltrow) and Monalisa and MadHatters/Rocket Man (featuring Elton John).

Overall, the album is pretty impressive and enjoyable. Matthew has a voice and the talent to make the world listen to him. His voice delivers smoothly whether he is singing pop, country, rock or even in a broadway-esque way.
