Music Album: King of Hearts by Lloyd

As a follow up to his third album, Lessons In Love, Lloyd delivers his long awaited fourth album, King of Hearts. In 2010, Lloyd enjoyed breakthrough success after being featured on Lil Wayne’s Young Money crew’s hit single BedRock. Shortly after his success with Young Money, Lloyd began shopping for another record label that he would call home, and though the speculations were that he would sign with Lil Wayne and Baby’s Young Money/Cash Money imprint, he made a surprising move by signing with Polow Da Don’s Zone 4 music label that receives distribution from Interscope (home to Lady Gaga, G-Unit and Akon). The move with Interscope enabled him to score an r&b hit, Lay It Down which became the first single and also spawned remixes featuring R.Kelly, Young Jeezy, B.o.B and Patti Labelle.

King of Hearts is no way as amazing has his first and second albums. The album offers a high and low sequence, for the mere fact that there is strong music in some parts and lacklustre tracks in some other parts. However, Lloyd sounds very mature and confident on the songs and exudes a high level of artistry that has never been visible on his previous efforts. From the sweet sounds of Cupid and Angel, to the risqué and naughty nature of Naked and Dedication to My Ex (Miss That), Lloyd offers a slew of love songs that would make the ladies consider him cocky, yet very loving and sweet. However, where Lloyd reigns are on the sequel to his 2007 hit, You 2 and the sexy Jigsaw.

As a testament to his growth as an artist and a personality within the music business, he shows off the list of his industry friends, a list that includes The Game, Chris Brown, R.Kelly, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne and Andre 3000 of Outkast. After following his career from when he was signed to Murder Inc up until now, I can attest to the fact that Lloyd has grown as not only an artist but also as a human being. King of Hearts is not as solid as it should have been, because it only makes you miss the Lloyd that delivered the Street Love era.
