Ten Years On... 9/11 Attacks

The 9th of September, 2001 will forever remain a date that the United States of America and the rest of the world will never forget. Every individual that is famliar with this date will know where they were at that particular moment when the planes flew through the World Trade Centre and the explosions at the Pentagon shortly after. This incident led to the death of over 2500 people of various cultural backgrounds and calibres.

Like all controversial situations, different people will have different views and opinions about the over-powering nature of the economy and status of the USA with regards to global politics and a sensitive issue like Terrorism. However, I am certain that we can all agree that mass deaths of innocent people cannot be the way forward. I understand that people have to have their reservations, opinions and ideals, but I think it is murder when your opinions aggravate the need to take the lives of innocent people in order for you to make your point known or to achieve an aim.

No matter the colour of our skin, our chosen religion or cultural affiliation, we can all agree that the devastation affected families throughout the world. In an interview with E!, Bono of U2 states "On 9/11 the entire world became American Citizens, and for every 9/11 that has come and will come, I will be American that day". So let's put aside our reservations for the American Foreign Policy or the way the play this game of politics. Violence might seem like the only logical solution but, what is the essence if it only causes misery? Children are dying from diseases and starvation, countries still wallow in underdevelopment and poverty, let's spread love and not violence. Let us also make sure that we take time every year to remember the lives that were lost and hope that they rest in peace.
