Music Album: Calling All Hearts by Keyshia Cole

In a time when the music industry was rapidly changing, we lost some of our favourite female r&b singers. Some decided to go extra-commercial by doing pop music (Beyonce, Rihanna) while somes careers entered slow motion (Ashanti, Brandy), but during this change a woman with a deep powerful voice came through and all she wanted to do was take her hold on r&b music and that woman was Keyshia Cole.

Since 2004 when she dropped her debut album, she has continued to give impressive albums and had time to become a mother, wife and reality star. Keyshia Cole sounds grown and happy on this new album, as the album explores the sweet and dark sides of relationships and struggles, the dark sides which have always been Keyshia's area of strength. With songs like Long Way Down, What You Do To Me and Take Me Away, it is a breath of fresh air to know that she equally holds her own when she sings about being in love and enjoying it. Keyshia was smart enough to give us those heartache songs that we love so much, the Timbaland produced and featured Last Hangover, and her duet with Faith Evans, If I Fall In Love Again. However, the best song on this album is her song with Tank, Tired of Doing Me, the exchange of words and the strength of their vocals make us know that amid all the different sounds we hear nowadays, true r&b is still able to make its way to the forefront.

Calling All Hearts is a classic r&b album and I think at this point in Keyshia's career, she can do no wrong. This is an improvement from her last album and it is refreshing to know that there are a lot of good songs coming out from her.
