Music Album: Lasers by Lupe Fiasco

With just two albums under his belt, Lupe Fiasco has built quite a reputation for himself. He is one of the few critically-acclaimed rappers because his albums never lack substance or impressive content. His third album, LASERS was initially set for a 2010 release but for some reason it was being delayed by Atlantic Records, this triggered an online petition by dedicated fans asking the record label for its release. The album was released in the USA on the 8th of March, 2011.

The first single from the album, The Show Goes On has become a moderate hit and the albums second single Words I Never Said (featuring Skylar Grey) is following suit. Lasers, has some good music, not great music but good music. The content of this album cannot be compared to the grammy-worthy material of his previous efforts. Though this album debuted atop Billboard’s top 200 albums, I strongly doubt that critics would love this. It can be argued that the reason this album was stalled was to give room for Lupe to record some commercial material because there is no outstanding material on this record.

I still believe that Lupe Fiasco is in a world of his own and there is no harm in trying new things. His lyrics are still capturing and somewhat poetic, thereby giving this album some reason to still be interested in his music. I have never been a huge fan of his but the respect I have for him is yet to diminish.
