Music Album: Doggumentary by Snoop Dogg

Doggumentary is the latest offering from rap superstar and hip hop legend, Snoop Dogg. Very few have been able to build a versatile and rewarding career like him and very few have been able to maintain the musical consistency that he offers throughout his ongoing career.

The idea of this album came as a result of Snoop Dogg's attempt to revisit the direction and ideas that inspired his debut album, Doggystyle. Though the album stays true to his traditional west coast hip hop style of rapping and mixing his rhymes with r&b, soul and funk influences, the album did fall short in some places. A 21-track album could have easily been a 13-track if he had just left some songs off the album and gone ahead with the stronger ones. Very few songs stand out on this record like, the Club-Nouveau sampled The Way Life Used To Be, the R.Kelly assisted Platinum and the amazing Eyez Closed featuring Kanye West and John Legend.

Overall, I think this album was a lazy attempt by Snoop to recapture success of the past, even though someone with a career as long and as successful as his should be able to come up with more innovative ways to create music. This should still be an acceptable effort by die-hard Snoop Dogg and west-coast music fans.
