Music Album: Radioactive by Yelawolf

Yelawolf is an Alabama native, a city in America not really known for its affiliation with the hip-hop community. However, after spending sometime in the underground hip-hop scene and building up a reputation for himself, he was finally signed to Eminem’s record label which i think was a great move for him because in a lot of ways he reminds me of a lot of Eminem sans the tattoos and the long locks. He delivers his brand new album, Radioactive, and I must say that I am impressed.

Yelawolf’s style of rapping is a mixture of Eminem and Twista, he tends to rap fast in some portions of his songs and in some other parts he does that “hold my breath” style of rapping that has been made popular by Eminem, where we see him dropping line after line, rhyme after rhyme even if it sounds like he is losing his breath. The production on this album is strong, gritty and heavy and I must say that Yelawolf’s rhymes suit them perfectly. The album maintains its momentum, there are more highs than lows which is a very good thing – some of the songs that particularly worth listening to include Let's Roll, Hard White (Up In The Club), Good Girl, Write Your Name and The Last Song.

He manages to score some high profile features from Kid Rock, Eminem, Mystikal, Killer Mike and Priscilla Renea, but also manages to bring out some upcoming acts to get their shine also. I read about Yelawolf last year and it was about the time I realised that he signed with Eminem, but after listening to this album, I can honestly say that he has caught my attention.
